Description
Some time ago, I noticed that playback of 24 bit FLAC files was broken on my AMD64 computer. I originally thought it was a sample rate problem, but it doesn't seem so. Whenever I play a 24 bit FLAC file, the left channel fills with painful noise, while the right channel plays a distorted (too slow) version of the sound file. This seems independent of sound file, as well as audio output. I checked out svn r28655, added the corresponding ffmpeg libav* and built. That build correctly plays the files. After that, the svn repository added more external dependencies then I cared to manually copy. The bug is still in the newest svn.
Some info on my machine.
amd 4850e, 4GB RAM, Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 (24 bit capable), nVidia GeForce 6800GS.
debian amd64/unstable. The libraries libx264.so.66 and libmp3lame.so.0 are self-built, all others are from debian.

I just confirmed the same problem on my laptop (intel atom, Intel 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02), debian unstable x86)

Friends of mine confirmed the bug on more sets different hardware. The bug is apparently not present in r28347 (2009-01-21).

Correction: The version that worked is r28279. It's from around January 09.
Also, my compiler is GCC 4.3.3
